Energy Czar (TWTW – Nov 20-24, 2017)

Energy Czar – OPEC meets in Vienna this coming Thursday, with expectations revolving around whether or not production cuts will be extended to possibly as far out as the end of 2018 … This may well be the case, in as much as both the Saudis, and the Russians need high oil prices – with Russia’s Putin now considered by some as the world’s Energy Czar …

Of course, the flipside of that coin is that the Saudis aren’t apparently thrilled at being the ones bearing the greatest burden as far as the cuts, all the while the Russians … well, they’d apparently love to turn on the spigots … Cheating … Anyone?

Latest Developments:

  • Amazon’s Jeff Bezos – Saw his net worth reach the USD 100 Billion mark …
  • NAFTA – with the respective heads of NAFTA negotiations for the US; Canada; and Mexico sitting out the latest round, talks apparently revolved around peripheral issues – the other ones being the ones both Mexico and Canada have pretty much said … would rather see talks fail than agree to these …
  • Yellen’s future – Has been clarified, in that the current FED Chair has indicated that she would remove herself entirely from the FED once her successor assumes his responsibilities, come February
  • Germany’s Angela Merkel – Emerged weakened from a recent breakdown with her coalition partners … BUT another door seems to have opened, albeit one that leaves her less powerful … Not necessarily a desirable situation, in that Europe needs “strength” at its German and French core…
  • Australians overall … Are even more indebted than their Canadian counterparts…
  • Canadian Banks – Kick off Q4 end FY 2017 earnings this week … (times are good … Aren’t they?)
